National Gamekeepers UnionNational Gamekeepers' Organisation


The NGO was set up by gamekeepers to protect game shooting and the future of their profession. Its membership mainly comprises professional gamekeepers but it is not a trade union.
The NGO provides support to its members and highlights the important role that gamekeepers can play in wildlife conservation. It often lends its official support to impartial wildlife research and gives advice on sustainable management practices.

Activities and Services:

  • Advice to the public about game-keeping and conservation issues
  • Contacts with local gamekeepers working in the region
  • Surveys of mammals and other relevant animals enlisting the help of game-keepers, and organised in collaboration with other research/conservation groups
  • Advice on conservation headlands, creation of beetle banks, game cover crops, enhancement of hedgerows and woodland fringes, etc

Geographic coverage:

The Association has a membership that covers Wales and England. The listed local contact is responsible for Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and some of Herefordshire.
