Oxfordshire Woodland Project

The Project was set up by the Oxfordshire Woodland Group in 1991 in partnership with the local authorities, the Countryside Commission and the Northmoor Trust. The Project Manager advises owners of small woodlands on the appropriate management needed to encourage wildlife, protect the landscape and provide an income, depending on the interests of the woodland owner. More recently, the objectives of the Project have expanded to include giving advice on larger woods and new plantings where appropriate.

Activities and services:

  • Free and impartial woodland management advice (often in the form of a five-year plant of operations) which includes sourcing plants, contractors, etc

  • Free membership of the Oxfordshire Woodland Group
  • Advice on applying for appropriate management grant schemes
  • Talks and woodland visits for school groups by arrangement
  • Publication of the Oxfordshire Coppice Register and woodland management advice leaflets, including Attracting Wildlife to Small Woods
