Chiltern Woodlands Project
The Project aims to promote the sensitive management of woodlands in the Chilterns. Also promotes woodland crafts and products, eg, charcoal burning and coppicing. The Project evolved from the Chiltern Society. It is now a registered charity and a not for profit company limited by guarantee.
Activities and services:
NL
- Provides conservation and management advice for small woods. Holds occasional workshops on various woodland management issues
- Help with felling licences and grant applications
- Publishes "News of the Woods" newsletter and management leaflets. Has published booklet "History in Chiltern Woods" and colour leaflet "Chiltern Woods are Special"
- Partnership with the TWIG Project (Trans-national Woodland Industries Group), a European Community funded project aimed at revitalising local woodland economies in the Chilterns, with partners in North Evia in Greece and Trier and Thuringia in Germany. Published through them "The Chiltern Wood Directory" and "On Site Sawmilling and Timber Conversion Information Pack"
- "Ecolots" scheme - to help Chilterns and Oxfordshire owners sell woodland produce and timber, taking countryside management into account. Available on line and in paper form. Act as regional coordinator for the Thames and Chilterns area
- Speaker available - butterflies, orchids, etc and woodland management
- Project management (act as agents) and consultancy on woodland matters
