Chilterns Conservation Board

Charity no: 1085163

The Chiltern Hills were designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in 1965, and cover 833 sq kms. The designation recognises that this area of countryside is one of the finest in the UK and is very valuable for its wildlife, geology, landscapes and cultural heritage.

In 2004 the Chilterns Conservation Board was established as the public body with responsibility for conserving and enhancing the Chilterns AONB and for encouraging public understanding and enjoyment of the area. The Board has 29 members drawn from local communities and a staff of 10. It produces a Management Plan for the AONB with policies and actions to enhance the environmental qualities of the area.
