British Waterways
manages the canal systems of Britain. Part of its remit includes providing environmental
services and undertaking scientific research. Their initiative, Canal Wildlife Challenge,
highlights the role played by canals as a sanctuary for wildlife and encourages people who
use the canals to collect wildlife data.
