welcome to ONCF

ONCF was set up as an independent organisation in 1993 to create a united platform for wildlife conservation in Oxfordshire. As far as we know it is still the only independent forum of its kind in the UK. Today it is an innovative and expanding partnership of 60 conservation organisations, farming bodies, environmental and recreational interests and local authorities. English Nature and others see us as an innovative leader in our field - giving Oxfordshire’s environmental groups an excellent competitive edge in bidding for resources.

All ONCF member organisations sign up to the Nature Conservation Strategy (reviewed and updated October 2005).

Mission

To increase the quality and quantity of the natural environment of Oxfordshire (particularly its biodiversity and accessible geodiversity) and its enjoyment by people, by building awareness, dialogue, understanding and partnerships among all agencies that influence it.

Aims

  • To help safeguard, maintain and enhance biodiversity and geodiversity in Oxfordshire

  • To encourage people from all sectors to enjoy, understand and become involved with conserving the natural environment of Oxfordshire

Objectives

1. To maintain the Forum for the next 10 years

2. To continue to provide the Local Biodiversity Action Plan co-ordination within the county

3. To work with all members to increase public understanding and appreciation of the natural environment

4. To work with all members to increase the opportunities for first hand enjoyment of the natural environment

5. To work with all members to encourage the involvement of communities in conserving the natural environment

6. To provide a collective voice for matters affecting the natural environment of the county.

By adding value to, rather than duplicating, the work of its members ONCF has changed the perception that there are many organisations pursuing uncoordinated goals in the conservation arena.
